The yellowjacket is very much aware of none of this. That sting that came out of nowhere at the August picnic, the workers boiling out of the ground when the mower passed too close, the nest inside the wall that nobody knew about until December when they opened the attic: all of the point is the yellowjacket. Paper wasp wasp under the eave is more visible but less aggressive. The mud dauber is present everywhere and stings almost nobody. The yellowjacket is the one that stings people who did nothing to deserve it, multiple times, in multiple locations, with no apparent warning and no proportionality.
