Basic Info about the NF Ranger District

The Catahoula Ranger District in Louisiana is 121,500 acres.

The Catahoula Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest is a large tract of forest that covers Grant and north Rapides Parishes and includes two lakes — Lake Iatt and Stuart Lake, a portion of the Saline Bayou Scenic River, five campgrounds, four trails, a butterfly garden, and an orchard.

It’s a great place to see butterflies, bees, lizards, turtles, bluebirds, dark-eyed juncos, white-throated sparrows, yellow-rumped warblers, eastern phoebes, and all kinds of bugs and snakes.

While we love all our wild friends, eastern fence lizards – are our favorite Catahoula Ranger District inhabitants. It was the first place we’d met these tiny lizards since we were kids playing in Nana’s yard.
